Blockabfertigung (truck metering on the A12 at Kufstein) in Tirol runs on six more days in 2026 and on 11 announced days in the first quarter of 2027. The A12 night ban also switches to its winter hours of 20:00 to 05:00 on weekdays from 2026-11-01. The 11-day Q1 2027 figure is easy to confuse with the full 2026 calendar, because Land Tirol set 30 metering days for 2026, according to VerkehrsRundschau, published 2025-11-27 . This guide puts the Kufstein dates, the three A12 bans, their exemptions and the pending EU court case into one winter 2026/2027 planning view.

Which Blockabfertigung days apply at Kufstein until March 2027?

Six planned metering days remain in 2026, and 11 are announced for the first quarter of 2027. The 2026 dates below come from ADAC's live overview (status 2026-10-06) . The Q1 2027 range comes from VerkehrsRundschau (2026-08-24) , which names Land Tirol as the originator.

The 11 Q1 2027 days were reported by VerkehrsRundschau and trans.info in August 2026. ADAC reports that Q2 2027 has not been announced. It also notes that authorities can add metering days at short notice, for example after accidents, so a date missing from the table is no guarantee of free flow.

Land Tirol, the provincial government, is the originator of the calendar, and the dates above reach you through trade press and a motoring club. Confirm every date on tirol.gv.at before you commit a departure.

How does the Kufstein truck metering work, and which trucks does it hit?

Metering starts at 05:00 at Kufstein Nord on the A12 and applies to southbound trucks over 7.5 t, according to ADAC and VerkehrsRundschau. Trucks up to 7.5 t are not metered. The sources describe a southbound measure only, so northbound loads fall outside the scope those sources describe.

No source gives a fixed end time, so treat a metering day as a full day of possible queueing. Both the night ban and the metering use 05:00 as a boundary, and the sources give no gap between them, so confirm local conditions before you time a first departure.

The hourly cap is not a single official number. ADAC states 250 trucks per hour. Italy puts the cap at 300 in its case before the Court of Justice of the EU, and Austria describes the system as a temporary speed limit used for a few hours when overload is forecast, as Eurotransport reported on 2026-08-11 . Treat each figure as an attributed claim rather than an official rule, and name the source whenever you quote one.

Which A12 bans apply to trucks this winter?

Three separate bans cover the Inntal motorway (A12), and all of them target trucks over 7.5 t. The table summarises them from the chamber of commerce (WKO) pages on the Tirol ordinances. Those pages carry a status date of November 2024, so check the current wording on tirol.gv.at.

For the base rules on Sunday and holiday bans across the country, see the Austria truck driving ban times guide .

What are the A12 night ban hours this winter?

From 1 November to 30 April, the A12 night ban runs from 20:00 to 05:00 on weekdays, per WKO . Sundays and public holidays start at 23:00 in both seasons. The 22:00 start quoted in many older guides is the summer figure for 1 May to 31 October, so a schedule built on 22:00 is two hours too late from 2026-11-01.

The same page lists a fine of up to 2,180 EUR, with up to 1,500 EUR provisional security. A fine of that size makes one misjudged departure more expensive than a missed metering slot.

Does the Euro-class ban still apply to Euro V and older trucks?

Yes. The ban covers Euro 0, I, II, III, IV and V on the night-ban stretch, and only Euro VI trucks fall outside it ( WKO ). A tractor with a Euro V engine cannot be assigned to a Tirol run on the strength of its age alone. Check the emission class of each unit before you plan a Munich-Verona rotation.

Which goods fall under the Tirol sectoral driving ban?

The sectoral ban applies between km 6.35 and km 72.00 and covers these goods, per WKO :

  • Waste (as defined by the European Waste Catalogue)
  • Stones and earth
  • Round timber and cork
  • Certain vehicles: mopeds, motorcycles, quads, cars, small buses and trucks up to 3.5 t
  • Ores
  • Steel, except reinforcing and structural steel for construction sites
  • Marble and travertine
  • Ceramic tiles
  • Paper and cardboard
  • Liquid mineral oil products
  • Cement, lime and burnt gypsum
  • Pipes and hollow profiles
  • Grain

Exemptions include conditional Euro VI, rail pre- and on-carriage to Hall in Tirol and Wörgl, and zero-emission vehicles. The WKO heading mentions 14 categories while the list shows 13, so check the ordinance (LGBl. 44/2016 as amended by LGBl. 48/2023) before you treat this list as complete.

Which trucks are exempt from the A12 night ban and the Euro-class ban?

Zero-emission and low-emission drivetrains, a short list of urgent cargo types and some Euro VI trucks are exempt from the night ban. The night-ban exemptions in the WKO summary are:

  • Perishable food with a shelf life of a few days
  • Periodical print
  • Medical emergency supply
  • Live animals
  • Tow and breakdown service
  • Battery-electric, hydrogen and monovalent CNG/LNG vehicles
  • Plug-in hybrids with at least 50 km electric range

Euro VI is not a blanket exemption. It applies only when most of the cargo is loaded or unloaded in the core or extended zone, or when the truck uses only A12 km 72-90, the south-west corridor. The core zone is the districts of Imst, Innsbruck-Land, Innsbruck-Stadt, Kufstein and Schwaz. The extended zone adds Kitzbühel, Landeck, Lienz, Reutte and Zell am See, German districts including Rosenheim and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the Italian Eisacktal, Pustertal and Wipptal.

Two examples show how this works. A Euro VI tractor delivering most of its load in Innsbruck-Stadt meets the core-zone condition. A Euro VI tractor on a through load that is neither loaded nor unloaded in the core or extended zone, and that drives beyond A12 km 72-90, meets neither condition, so the night ban applies to it.

For the Euro-class ban the dividing line is the emission class itself: Euro VI trucks are outside it.

What is the Saturday winter ban, and are 2026/2027 dates published?

The Saturday winter ban is a separate Tirol measure for the A12 and A13, and no verified calendar for winter 2026/2027 exists as of 2026-10-24. The 2024 edition gives an idea of the pattern: it ran on Saturdays from 2024-01-13 to 2024-03-09, 07:00 to 15:00, for trucks over 7.5 t heading to or through Italy or Germany, according to trans.info .

This guide therefore lists no Saturday dates for 2026/2027. Treat the 2024 pattern as precedent only, and check tirol.gv.at for the current regulation before you plan Saturday departures from Bavaria. The 2023 version of this measure is the one the Advocate General described as discriminatory by destination, which the next section covers.

What did the EU Advocate General say about the Tirol bans?

On 2026-07-16 the Advocate General in Case C-524/24, Italy v Austria, advised that three of the four Tirol measures breach EU law, and that the Kufstein metering is compatible with it. The Court of Justice press release announced the opinion. The three measures at issue are the night ban, the sectoral ban and the winter ban.

Eurotransport's analysis (2026-08-11) reports the reasoning for each measure:

  • The night ban is inconsistent because of its local and regional exemptions, and it lacks periodic review.
  • The sectoral ban should have been reviewed once the 2021 air-quality limits were met.
  • The winter ban is discriminatory by destination.

The opinion is not binding, and no judgment date has been announced. Until Austria changes the rules or the court rules, the bans stay in force, so nothing in this guide changes for winter 2026/2027. Our reading is that metering is the restriction most likely to remain, because the opinion left it standing. The full case is covered in our Advocate General opinion explainer .

How should dispatchers plan around Tirol this winter?

Build the calendar first, then check each unit and each load against the bans. These steps cover the planning that matters most:

  1. Enter the six remaining 2026 dates and the Q1 2027 dates into the dispatch calendar, and re-check them weekly on tirol.gv.at for added days.
  2. Time southbound departures over 7.5 t on metering days with the 05:00 start of dosing in mind, and allow for queueing across the full day because no end time is published.
  3. Check the Euro class of every tractor against the Euro-class ban, and verify the zone conditions in writing before relying on a Euro VI exemption.
  4. Compare each load with the sectoral goods list, with particular attention to paper, steel, cement and grain.
  5. Add slack for unplanned metering days, which authorities can add at short notice, for example after accidents.
  6. Confirm the tyre and chain obligations for your route in the Austria winter tyre rules for trucks .
  7. Check the holiday overlap around Christmas and New Year in the Austria Christmas and New Year truck ban guide , and look up 2027 dates in the Austria 2027 holiday calendar .

Frequently asked questions

When is the next Blockabfertigung in Tirol?

The next planned day after 2026-10-24 is Tuesday 2026-10-27, followed by Wednesdays 2026-11-04, 2026-11-11, 2026-11-18, 2026-11-25 and 2026-12-09, per ADAC (status 2026-10-06). The first announced day in 2027 is 2027-01-07. Authorities can add days at short notice, so check tirol.gv.at before dispatch.

How many trucks per hour does the Kufstein metering allow?

There is no single official figure in the sources. ADAC states 250 trucks per hour, Italy cites 300 in its case before the Court of Justice, and Austria calls the system a temporary speed limit used for a few hours when overload is forecast. Quote the source, not a number.

How long does the night ban apply on the A12 in winter?

From 1 November to 30 April, the ban applies on weekdays from 20:00 to 05:00. On Sundays and public holidays it runs from 23:00 to 05:00 in both seasons. It covers trucks over 7.5 t on the A12 between km 6.35 (Langkampfen) and km 90.00 (Zirl).

Does the Blockabfertigung apply to trucks under 7.5 t?

No. ADAC states that the metering at Kufstein applies to trucks over 7.5 t only, and it is a southbound measure at Kufstein Nord on the A12. Trucks up to 7.5 t are not held in the dosing queue.

Is the Brenner truck ban illegal under EU law?

Not yet. The Advocate General advised on 2026-07-16 that the night, sectoral and winter bans breach EU law, but an opinion does not bind the Court of Justice. No judgment date is announced, and the bans stay in force until the court rules or Austria changes them.

Is there a Saturday winter truck ban in Tirol in 2027?

This guide cannot confirm one. The 2024 ban ran on Saturdays from 2024-01-13 to 2024-03-09, but no verified calendar for 2026/2027 is available as of 2026-10-24. Check the current regulation on tirol.gv.at before planning Saturday runs.

Which goods does the sectoral ban cover?

On the A12 between km 6.35 and km 72.00, it covers goods such as waste, stones and earth, round timber, ores, steel, cement, paper and cardboard, liquid mineral oil products and grain. The full WKO list has 13 entries, and it is worth checking against the ordinance.
